What Can and Can’t be Stored in a Storage Unit?

If you find that you are running out of space to store some of your items, it may be time to consider using a self-storage facility. One of the most frequently asked questions we are asked is what can you actually store in your unit and are there any items that are prohibited?

What is prohibited inside a storage unit

Combustible, Flammable, Hazardous or Toxic Materials

Any items that are considered to be dangerous or flammable are not allowed to be stored in any of our storage units. Some of these items are gasoline, propane tanks, kerosene, lamp and motor oil, grease, corrosive items, fertilizer, paint or other hazardous waste. Although our units protect stored items from the elements, we want to ensure safety for everyone.

Vehicles

We do offer vehicle storage for your convenience however we do ask that the vehicle is registered, insured and operational.

Tires

Because tires are very expensive to dispose of we do not allow more than 4 tires to be stored in any unit.

Medical Supplies & Equipment

If you have a number of medical supplies and equipment, we recommend using Annacis Lockup for your storage needs because it is extremely safe and convenient. It is worth noting that most supplies are acceptable, however, anything that contains radioactive materials cannot legally be stored.

Construction Equipment

Many contractors choose to store their construction equipment at our facility because it is bulky, heavy, and often difficult to store. Because we a centrally located in Greater Vancouver: New Westminster, BC, you can easily pick up items before going to a construction site.

Food & Perishables

Jarred or canned food can easily be stored as long as it is sealed, however, we do not allow food products such as cereal, produce, meat or dairy items because they can spoil and may attract pests.

Other items that cannot be stored:

  • Dog food, cat food, bird seed or any type of pet food
  • Spices of any kind
